President Yoweri Museveni’s son Muhoozi Kainerugaba has been removed from the position of army commander of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces.
This follows the controversial comments he made on Twitter on October 3, 2022. In the tweets, Muhoozi had claimed that it would take him days to overun Nairobi in the event of war between Uganda and Kenya.
In the changes that are being reported in Ugandan media houses, Muhoozi has however been pushed upwards to the position of General.
His former position will now be under Major General Kayanja Muhanga. Kayanja is the current commander of Operation Shujaa in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
It’ll take less than 2 weeks to capture Nairobi, says Museveni’s army son
He has now been reportedly promoted to the position of Lieutenant General and the Commander of Land Forces under the Uganda People’s Defense Forces, succeeding Muhoozi.
These changes have however been interpreted as a veiled promotion for Muhoozi who will now occupy the higher rank of General.
Muhoozi had earlier on hinted that changes in the army would be announced soon after his controversial remarks.
“It wouldn’t take us, my army and me, 2 weeks to capture Nairobi,” Muhoozi had stated on Twitter.
He had then laughed off Kenya’s constitutional provision of presidential term limits insinuatuing that that does not work for Uganda. “Haha! I love my Kenyan relatives. Constitution? Rule of law? You must be joking! For us, there is only the Revolution and you will soon learn about it!” he said.
