Airtel Kenya partners with Mukuru Promotion Centre to support 22 students with scholarships

Today, Airtel Kenya signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mukuru Promotional Center (MPC), a non-profit organisation, to provide scholarships for 22 deserving students worth KSH 1.7M.

Airtel Kenya will give scholarships to students at St. Michael’s Secondary School in Mukuru in keeping with Airtel’s social impact objective to guarantee high-quality education for all children on the continent. Since most of the kids at the MPC-managed school come from low-income households and depend on the generosity of sponsors, the school plays a critical part in giving these students a chance at a better future.

“Airtel Africa’s ambition across the continent is focused on transforming the lives of over one million children in Africa through digital and quality education by 2027. Today’s scholarship initiative is among other key initiatives that will help improve education through our corporate social responsibility activities,” Airtel Africa Vice President, Corporate Communications and CSR Mr Emeka Oparah asserted.

Airtel Kenya has been a significant education sponsor at St. Michael’s Secondary School since 2012. This sponsorship constitutes 13% of the school’s total financial support from corporate partners.

Commenting on the MOU, Airtel Kenya Managing Director Mr. Ashish Malhotra said,

“At Airtel Kenya, we recognise that access to education is a basic human right for every child and not a privilege for a few. For this reason, we are intentional about including education as central to our broader sustainability agenda. By adopting schools, we aspire to continue providing long-term and modern practical support for underprivileged students, like connecting them with our high-speed internet to enhance their digital learning.”

Mukuru Promotion Centre (MPC) is a non-profit organisation that has supported initiatives in the community that include education, health, social welfare, social rehabilitation, and environmental change.

Sr Mary Killen, Director of Mukuru Promotion Center, expressed her gratitude for Airtel’s generosity.
