The Nation Media Group has fired long serving editor Mutuma Mathiu. Mutuma had served at the NMG for 23 years.
Over the last four years, he was serving as the Group Editorial Director. He was demoted in November to the less influential position of Consulting Editor and replaced by Joe Ageyo.
Ageyo had joined the Nation Media Group from the Royal Media Services a few months ago.

Mutuma’s exit from Nation is the highest exit by a senior employee. It comes in the wake of sackings that have seen senior journalists Mark Masai and Dennis Okari leave NMG.
Other top journalists who have received their sack letters include Churchill Otieno who was the head of news and managing editor, Peter Ngare who has been the managing editor for Taifa Leo, and Guchu Ndung’u who has been the editor for Political and Parliamentary Affairs.
Also fired are Joan Pereruan who has been the photo editor, Vincent Achuka who has been working as the investigative news reporter, Silas Apolo who has been working as a news reporter and Harry Misiko who is an Alfred Friendly Fellow.
