Nairobi City Marathon gets Kshs. 5 million sponsorship boost from KCB

KCB has pumped Kshs. 5 million into the Nairobi City Marathon that will be held on July 2nd, 2023, at the Nairobi Expressway.

The 2nd edition of the City Marathon will see athletes compete in the 42 km full marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km and 6km races and battle for cash prizes in each category.

Winners in both men and women categories in the 42km full marathon race will walk away with Kshs. 3.5 million, while the runners-up will get Kshs. 2.2 million. The second runners-up will bag Kshs. 1.5 million.

NBK Managing Director George Odhiambo said:

“We are thrilled to participate as one of the key financial partners for the Nairobi City Marathon. This opportunity allows us to actively contribute towards the long-term sustainability of sports in our country,”

he said during the Nairobi cheque handover event.

Last year’s 42km full marathon winner Brimin Kipkorir will be keen to defend his crown in the 2023 event, expected to attract over 5 000 participants from Kenya and beyond.

Dubbed the greatest marathon on the continent, the Nairobi City Marathon will also see winners in the 21km race receive Kshs. 150 000 in both men and women categories while runners up and second runners up will get Kshs. 80 000 and 50, 000 respectively.

Registration is still ongoing as participants race to have their names on the list as the marathon edges closer.
