Nakuru and Nyandarua counties have been listed as Kenya’s top gambling counties.
This is according to the findings of the Financial Access (FinAccess) Household survey that was conducted by the Central Bank of Kenya, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics and the Financial Sector Deepening Trust – Kenya (FSD Kenya).
Nakuru has emerged as the county with the largest share of population engaged in betting and gambling activities at 25.6 per cent.
One in four Nakuru residents took part in betting last year. West Pokot county comes in second with 25 per cent of its residents addicted to gambling.
West Pokot is followed by Nyandarua with a population of 23.7 per cent, Busia 22.3 per cent, Trans Nzoia 20.9 per cent, Siaya 19.3 per cent, and Nairobi at 19 per cent.

Other counties found in the top 10 betting list are Siaya at 19.3 per cent, Nairobi at 19 per cent, Machakos at 18.5 per cent, Murang’a at 17 per cent and Kajiado at 16.9 per cent.
The survey findings suggested that counties in northern Kenya are not addicted to gambling.
For instance, Garissa County has the lowest prevalence of gambling in the country with a paltry 0.5 percent of its residents engaged in the activity.
Garissa is followed by Marsabit at 0.7 per cent, Wajir County at 1.5 per cent, Nandi at 3.8 per cent, Tana River at 4.1 per cent, Kwale at 4.6 per cent, and Meru 5.1 per cent.
