Real ‘Mathe wa Ngara’ moves to court to block DCI officers from arresting her

Real 'Mathe wa Ngara' moves to court to block DCI officers from arresting her

In a twist of drug crackdown events in the country, business lady Nancy Kigunzo, who turns out to be the real ‘mathe wa ngara’ has turned to the court for safety.

Kigunzo seeks to bar DCI officers and police from arresting her. She has filed court papers, asserting that her source of income and enterprise is legitimate.

The businesswoman added that police were illegally trying to push her out of her legitimate business on fake charges and intimidations.

“The applicant is of the firm belief that the timing of the arrest is designed to intimidate and ensure that she does not continue running her business here in Kenya,” she wrote in her court application documents.

Kigunzo petitioned in court to be granted an injunction while her request for anticipatory bail is pending. Anticipatory bail is a legal measure taken to prevent the potential arrest of a suspect.

She specified in her application that she would be willing to surrender to the police on condition that she is given a fair and impartial legal process.

“The powers of arrest by the 1st (DCI) and 2nd (IG Koome) respondents are being abused and misused to harass, intimidate and oppress the applicant,” the documents read in part.

How police found Sh. 13 million in sacks at Kwa Mathe

It now appears that police arrested the wrong ‘Mathe wa Ngara’. Allegedly, Nancy Kigunzo phoned Teresia Wanjiku while she was still in custody to apologize for the mistaken identity.

Teresia wasn’t expecting the call. She explained that Kigunzo sounded confident and untroubled during their conversation. She told her that they would meet in court.

In 2018, Nancy Kigunzo was listed by the National Intelligence Service as among the most notorious drug dealers in 2018.

She has evaded arrest on several occasions after bribing police officers from various police stations.
