Ex-TSC boss Nancy Macharia set for top Murang’a County job

The immediate former Teachers Service Commission boss Nancy Macharia has been nominated for the position of Murang’a County public service board chair. The nomination was made public through a notice that was issued by the Murang’a County Assembly dated June 19, 2025.

Following her nomination, Dr. Macharia is now scheduled to appear before the assembly’s committee for vetting on Friday, June 27. The nomination was a notice signed by Annie Macharia, Acting Clerk of the County Assembly. Her nomination falls under the County Governments Act and the Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approval) Act, which require public vetting before formal appointments.

If approved for the position, Dr. Macharia will lead the board responsible for overseeing county human resource matters, including hiring, promotions, and disciplinary actions.

Four other nominees are lined up to serve alongside Dr. Macharia on the board. They include Dr. Louis Mwende Musikali (Member), Johnson Kang’ethe Kinyua (Member), Dr. Brian Lishenga Makamu,  (Member) and Oscar Kimani Gathura (Secretary)

All nominees have been instructed to present original documents during the vetting, including academic certificates, clearance from KRA, HELB, EACC, police, and CRB, and a valid ID or passport.

Dr. Macharia’s nomination comes barely weeks after the TSC formally advertised the position of Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Macharia’s term shall officially come to an end at the TSC on June 30, 2025. She is retiring as from the CEO position after leasing the organization for a period of ten years.

She started serving as TSC CEO in June 2015. In 2020, her contract was extended at the TSC. Dr. Macharia took over from Gabriel Lengoiboni who retired on June 30th, 2015. Her appointment followed the conclusion of a competitive recruitment process that started on May 1st, 2015 when the position was advertised.

The advertisement for the post of CEO attracted 69 candidates. Four were shortlisted. After two days of interviews, Ms. Macharia was selected to be the ninth, and first female, chief executive to head TSC since the first appointment in 1967.
