Naneu Muthoni was in a toxic relationship. She had not been in talking terms with her boyfriend, Thomas Mbugua.
Her mother, after noticing that the boyfriend was toxic, had warned her to avoid him and to end the relationship. She promised to do so.
Then she changed her mind and decided to visit him at his house in Lang’ata. The house was just a short distance from their house at Onyonka estate.
It is during this visit that Muthoni’s boyfriend is suspected to have turned on her and killed her.
Muthoni’s mom was woken up by a phone call at 2.30am on Sunday morning, hours after she had left their home at Sinai Court to see the boyfriend.
“My wife received a call, but there was no response from the caller,” Muthoni’s dad Sam Muturi said. She called back several times but there was no answer.
The parents went to church hoping she would have returned when they got back. She didn’t return.
By Sunday evening, she had not returned and her phones were switched off. The parents called their relatives to find out if any of them was with her. None of them had seen her.
He following Monday morning, Naneu Muthoo mom went to the boyfriend’s house but she was unable to gain entry as the door had been locked.
Her dad went to work. At around 11am, he was called by a neighbor and asked to go Wimbi Court where Muthoni boyfriend lived in a servants quarter.
He was joined there by his wife. “I could not believe that was my daughter lying on the couch with blood splatted all over on the floor and walls; the place was a mess. My daughter didn’t deserve such a gruesome death,” said Muturi.
Muthoni’s three phones were missing. Her naked body had multiple stab wounds. According to the police, the boyfriend is the prime suspect in the murder. He was also the last person known to have been with her.
Naneu’s father Muturi says that after allegedly killing his daughter, Mbugua allegedly also called his mother who lives in the United States and admitted to having committed the crime.
