Kenyan billionaire businessman Naushad Merali dies

Naushad Merali Dies: Kenyan billionaire businessman Naushad Merali is died. He was 70 years old. Reports say that Merali died on Saturday morning at around 4am.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing away of Naushad Merali. A renowned and distinguished international entrepreneur, industrialist, and philanthropist. Our prayers are with Zarin, Yasmin and Sameer Merali,” ANC Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi said.

Merali was born 2 January 1951 in Nairobi, Kenya. He was the founder of the Kenyan mobile service provider Kencell along with French media giant Vivendi. He attended Highway Secondary School in the suburbs of Nairobi, Kenya.

As one of Kenya’s leading industrialists, Merali has brought commercial development in Kenya for more than 30 years and is constantly expanding his businesses throughout East Africa.

Based on annual Forbes ranking of Africa’s richest in Kenya Meralli is the third richest man in Kenya and 48th richest man in Africa with a net worth of $370 million, as of November 2015. Ranking behind Bhimji Depar Shah and family Kenya’s richest with a net worth of $700m who ranked 31st richest man in Africa as of November 2015 and Narendra Raval of Devki group who ranked second richest in Kenya with a net worth of $400 million.

“We are very sad to hear of the passing on of Naushad Merali this morning. Our thoughts are with Sameer Merali and the rest of the Family. May he rest in peace,” Group Chief Technology Innovation Officer, Liquid Intelligent Technologies Kenya said.
