NCBA has opened a new branch in Kerugoya town, Kirinyaga County as the lender continues to broaden its presence in the country to foster financial inclusivity.

The branch located at the Oasis Building in Kerugoya town will provide residents with the opportunity to access personalised banking services near them.

It brings the total number of NCBA branches in the country to 97 after the recent opening of two other branches in Laikipia and Kitui counties.

Speaking during the branch opening, NCBA Group Chairman Mr. James Ndegwa expressed optimism that the new branch will greatly facilitate the Bank’s customers.

“The Kerugoya branch is the 5th branch that NCBA has opened this year as we implement our strategic retail expansion drive, and I am happy to report that, the opening of this branch brings the total number of branches in the country to 97 and present in 29 counties,” he said.

“This is a new beginning not only for NCBA but also for the People of Kirinyaga County. With a population of 39,441 people, agriculture is then the backbone of this region and 87% of the population engaging in it and contributing 72% to the household incomes; As NCBA, we remain committed to ensuring that this region continues with its growth and development.” Mr. Ndegwa added.

Banks have continued to open new branches countrywide despite the increasing shift by customers from brick-and-mortar banking to fast and convenient digital banking.

Data from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) shows that the number of transactions happening outside the bank branches increased to 96 percent from 91 percent before the Covid-19 pandemic.

CBK notes that the COVID 19 pandemic promoted cashless transactions with financial institutions investing in digital banking platforms, which have reduced the need for customers to visit brick-and-mortar outlets for services such as opening accounts.

NCBA, however, maintains that physical outlets are key to attracting new customers insisting that it is opening branches that are more focused on business development rather than transactions.

The new branch is set to focus on providing Kerugoya customers with a broad range of financial products and solutions, including savings and current accounts, loans, investment solutions for wholesalers, and asset finance solutions for retailers.

Mobile and internet banking services will also enable customers to access their accounts from anywhere at any time.

Additionally, the bank aims to create pathways to prosperity for individuals, businesses, and key sectors, catering to popular customer needs through solutions like NCBA Till, mobile banking, online banking, and PDQ machines.
