Why We Need to Invest in Trust – Bob Collymore, CEO Safaricom

What is your company’s most valuable asset?
Is it the expensive manufacturing plant that delivers efficiencies and cuts your time to market?

Is it the decision you made to recruit the best management team who are executing on a deliberate strategy?

Or is it the prudent use of your investments that equips your business with the right tools for growth?

For most companies, their most valuable asset can be a combination of all of the above.

But in my view, the most critical asset a company can own is Trust.

Trust drives our economies, businesses or personal careers.

But today, we are a world in crisis.

The fact is, there is a growing deficit of trust in society at large.

We face an increasing lack of faith that is directly proportional to how wealth is distributed in our societies.

Somewhat tellingly, the richest 1% across the world has greater trust in leadership (in all its spheres) than the remaining 99%.

This is because this small group is often the direct beneficiaries of any actions undertaken by leaders.

For instance, as the world watched Britain file for divorce from Europe during the Brexit vote in June, it was clear that there was more at play than a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ vote to stay as part of the union….
