Government: Help us choose new uniform design for our Kenyan police

Government: Help us choose new uniform design for our Kenyan police

In a change of wear for the ‘men in blue’, the government of Kenya has launched new police uniforms for the National Police Service officers.

This move by the Kenya Kwanza administration signals a departure of the royal navy blue uniforms that were unveiled during former Interior CS Matiangi’s tenure.

Images shared by NPS show that the new uniforms are sky blue in colour, with options for long sleeves or short sleeves.

The government has invited Kenyans to give their opinions on which design to go with for their new uniforms.

“The National Police Service kindly invites the public to participate in the selection process for the proposed Kenya Police Service uniform,” the statement read.

The uniforms have 4 different options, namely A, B, C and D. The new uniform will have the Kenyan flag on its right and the NPS logo on the left just as before.

As per reports, should amendments happen to the officers’ uniforms, they will revert to wearing navy blue trousers and skirts.

NPS will conduct several stakeholder forums at different locations to pave way for public participation in the selection of uniforms.

The first forum happened today at the Kenya Police Pavillion in South C. Others are set to take place at Ruring’u Police Training College and the National Police College – Kiganjo on August 30th and 31st respectively.

The change in uniform for Kenyan officers follows a promise of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during the Kenya Kwanza 2022 campaign trail.

He opined that the current uniforms were chosen without the input of the officers who spent days wearing them.

“You have suffered so much in the hands of Matiang’i and Kibicho. Even the new blue uniform that you don’t want will be revoked and we return to the old one,” he mentioned on June 11th, 2022.

“The blue one will be left for the PCEA church. It is the uniform of the women’s guild,” Gachagua added.

The old Kenya police uniforms were launched in September 2018 by former CS Matiang’i and unveiled by former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
