Ngirita family unable to pay Sh. 5 million NYS cash bail

The Ngirita family is now unable to raise a Sh. 5 million cash bail that is the set condition for their release from remand.

On Wednesday, the five Ngirita family members pleaded with a Nairobi court to reduce their bond terms.

Apparently, the five are unable to raise the cash because their bank accounts have been frozen.

Through lawyer Cliff Ombeta, the Ngirita family told Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti that their assets too have been frozen.

The siblings are facing charges in relation to the loss of some Sh. 469 million at the National Youth Service (NYS).

The Ngirita family includes their mother Lucy Wambui, daughters Ann Wanjiku Wambere and Phyllis, Jeremiah Gichini and his wife Catherine Wanjiku Mwai.

Ann, through her company Annwaw, is alleged to have received more than Sh. 74 million from NYS while her mother, through her company Waluko Investments allegedly received Sh. 59 million.

The family is facing charges that have also netted top fish at the NYS and Permanent Secretary Lillian Omollo. This follows the loss of some Sh. 9 billion at the NYS through inflated tenders.

Inflation of prices in procurement of goods and services has become the new way of robbing taxpayers in Kenya. Ironically, the government has come out half heartedly in the fight against incorruption, with beneficiaries being quoted as high ranking, untouchable personalities in its ranks.
