KQ: How Nigerian passenger without visa violated our staff at JKIA

Kenya Airways has shared shocking details on how a passenger from Nigeria caused fracas at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and violated employees of the national carrier. KQ was responding to a video clip that appeared to show an agitated traveler at the airport engaging in an argument with a KQ staff at JKIA.

It has now emerged that the clip did not fully portray the incident as it happened at the KQ transfer desk in Nairobi. According to the national carrier, the passenger was traveling from Lagos to Nairobi, Paris, and Manchester.

Upon arrival in Nairobi for her connecting flight from Nairobi to Paris, it was discovered that she did not have a Schengen visa. This visa is a mandatory requirement for entry into countries under the European Union.

Kenya Airways says that the passenger was offered an alternative to travel via London and then Manchester. She refused and insisted on her Paris route. The airline says that she then demanded for accommodation which is not provided by the airline in cases where passengers have been denied boarding to lack of visas.

With this refusal, the passenger went into a fit of rage and according to the carrier, she removed and threw used sanitary pads at the airline’s staff at JKIA.

Kenya Airways stood by its employees and hours later, the carrier announced that the passenger was being returned back to Lagos. “Given the circumstances, we have agreed to rebook the guest on the next available flight back to Lagos (LOS), Nigeria,” Kenya Airways announced.

“We believe in maintaining a culture of mutual respect and understanding. Any inappropriate behaviour towards our employees or guests is unacceptable, and we are dedicated to upholding the dignity and safety of everyone in our care.”
