Comedian Njugush and his wife, Celestine Ninda alias Wakavinye, have joined the ranks of new entrants in the matatu business after purchasing a new matatu.
In a video announcement, the couple unveiled the stylish ride, which they named Tugi, after their firstborn son.
Celestine gave fans a sneak peek of the 33-seater matatu, which will operate under the Super Metro Sacco and serve the Nairobi-Kitengela route. Taking on the roles of driver and conductor, Njugush and Celestine took the matatu for its first ride on the roads.
It was a momentous occasion, with Njugush and his wife honoured by close friends from the entertainment industry as their first passengers. The couple hold these friends in such high regard that they featured some of their pictures inside the matatu.
Among the faces inside the matatu are Phil Director, Eddie Butita, Abel Mutua, and Judy Nyawira, along with their own.
The interior of the matatu features a large-screen TV, which the couple noted would be used to advertise products for clients. They also added that they would be placing detachable posters on seats for promotional services.
Njugush: How a drunkard in matatu helped me pursue journalism degree
Njugush confirmed to the public that the matatu can also be hired for events by contacting a number written on the rear windshield.
It’s unclear how much the couple spent to purchase their new ride. However, what is clear is that the couple have now become employers in the matatu sector, which is a significant part of the country’s transportation network and economy.
Njugush and his wife, Celestine Ndinda, have followed in the footsteps of fellow celebrity Willy Paul, who also launched his own private matatu back in 2022. The couple has hinted at buying more matatus in the future.
Reportedly, the couple also run a clothing line together and earn a huge portion of their income from the popular Through Thick N Thin (TTNT) live shows.
