Nyandarua Roads: It was shame and shock after a man from Nyandarua who could not access a health centre died on wheelbarrow. The man from Gathanji ward is reported to have succumbed atop a wheelbarrow as residents pushed and pulled through the mad in an effort to get him to the hospital.

His death has laid bear the sorry state of roads in Nyandarua, of which the county Governor Francis Kimemia has received overwhelming criticism.

The elderly man is said to have died after four hours of struggling to get to the hospital.

This is not the first time that the county is shamelessly getting bad press over poor roads. A few months ago, residents of Ol Borosat village were forced to use a donkey to ferry a casket for burial due to bad roads.

The family of the late Alice Njoki had picked her body at JM Hospital Mortuary in Ol Kalou for burial at Shamata ward.

Ironically, the county’s largest budget allocation has been going to roads. Two months ago, the county government acquired road construction machinery worth over Sh. 400 million. The impact of this huge acquisition is however yet to be felt on the ground. Nyandarua Roads.
