Nyeri tycoon who murdered his son in January to get insurance money dies

Nyeri Tycoon Dies: A Nyeri tycoon allegedly masterminded the murder of his son in order to get insurance compensation has died. Stephen Wang’ondu died while undergoing treatment at the Nyeri Outspan Hospital where he was admitted.

The death of the 75-year-old businessman on Friday was confirmed by his son Mworia Wang’ondu and lawyer Mahugu Mbarire.

Stephen is said to have paid Sh. 160,000 to have his son Daniel Mwangi Wangondu murdered. Mwangi Wangondu was found murdered on January 1, this year. According to the police, Wangondu’s father had ordered the kill following a domestic conflict with his son. The father is said to be a wealthy businessman who owns several petrol stations in Nyeri.

How Nyeri father paid Sh. 160,000 to have his son murdered

Apparently, when Stephen planned to murder his son, he tasked his driver with putting together a gang that would carry out the gruesome murder. The gang included four men, who according to the Director of Criminal Investigations, have admitted to taking part in the murder. These are Eddy Kariuki, Geoffrey Warutumo, Raphael Wachira, and James Mwangi.

A down payment of Sh. 100,000 was paid to the gang. The DCI says in court papers that this money was used to construct a two room house by Eddy. Another Sh. 20,000 is said to have been used by Raphael to purchase household goods including a sub woofer.
