Obadiah, a Kenyan based in the US claimed an abandoned Porsche Cayenne in the state of Minnesota. He works as a contractor, fixing citizens’ houses and their driveways.
In a video with Huku Yues prime mover, Ibrahim Onami, Obadiah noted that he collected the Sh. 8 million powerful machine in downtown Minnesota.
The vehicle had missing parts such as brake pads and side mirrors; it also had flat tires.
He picked up the vehicle and decided to work on its restoration. Obadiah approximates that it cost him Sh. 850,000 ($7000) to work on repairs.
“It is a new car. I spent Sh. 861,000 to repair it but the vehicle itself is worth Sh. 8.6 million in retail. A new one would cost upwards of Sh. 12.3 million,” he said in the interview.
The Minnesota state statutes deem a vehicle to be abandoned on three instances; First, if the vehicle has been parked illegally for more than 48 hours on US government property.
Secondly, if the vehicle has remained illegally on private property for long periods without the owner’s consent to have the vehicle parked.
Thirdly, if the vehicle has missing parts, or is inoperable such that it has no substantial potential for use compared to its usual routine functions.
Obadiah revealed that he has attained success in the United States following his connections with friends he studied with at Noormandale Community College.
“I occasionally get these contracts through my friend who runs an agency that deals in construction and renovations of homes and estates,” he stated.
He is an employer, having contracted a few men whom he pays Sh. 4,305 per hour to get the work done.

“I pay them handsomely to a figure around Sh. 4,305 ($35).”
The contractor stated that life in the US was initially challenging for him as he had to work odd jobs just to get by.
“I have worked in elderly foster homes and got short-term employment with various companies around here. I would however revert to foster home care as it was more rewarding,” said Obadiah.
He also reverted to foster home care so that he could be able to work and study simultaneously.
“I would go there, find the elderly asleep and do my studies while keeping an eye on them,” he stated.
