Okiya Omtatah: Azimio refused to ‘pay’ me Sh. 1.6 million for Supreme Court case

Activist and new Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has claimed that Azimio la Umoja coalition refused to fund him during the Supreme Court case hearing for the presidential petition.

According to Okiya Omtatah, the case cost him Sh. 1.6 million. He approached the Azimio la Umoja coalition seeking funding but the coalition refused to release any money to him.

After failing to get the funds from Azimio, Omtatah said that he dug into his own pocket.

“It did cost me and I believed in it. I paid roughly 1.6 million shillings to prosecute that case. I tried to get money from Azimio they could not give me. Because I was convicted I had to use my own money to file that case,” he said.

The petition had been launched by the Azimio la Umoja coalition. It sought to have the election of Dr. William Ruto as the fifth president and the declaration of this election by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission nullified.
