Company culture is a big deal. It factors in when making hiring decisions, as well as branding and marketing decisions. While it’s often referred to as a “vibe,” or otherwise something unquantifiable, company culture can — in many ways — affect a project or a company’s success.

After all, company culture doesn’t just happen. It’s something you create and have to actively manage, just as you would keep tabs on and make tweaks to any other initiative at your company.

Wondering if your partner will cheat on you? Well, it has now been discovered that the best way to tell if your partner is going to cheat on you – check the length of their fingers.

Experts at Oxford University have discovered that people whose ring finger is longer than their index finger are much more likely to cheat.

Those whose index and ring fingers are the same length are more likely to be loyal to their partners.

Apparently it is all linked to the level of testosterone in a person’s body and those who have higher levels have a greater desire to procreate.

According to the report, the length of a person’s index finger is set before birth.

Experts say it is influenced by the level of sex hormones babies are exposed to while in the womb.

Rafael Wlodarski, a researcher in the university’s department of experimental psychology, said: “There seems to be two types of males and two types of females.

“We observed what appears to be a cluster of males and a cluster of females who are more inclined to ‘stay,’ with a separate cluster of males and females being more inclined to ‘stray,’ when it comes to sexual relationships.”

The researchers added that while hormone exposure was not set in every human being, the link between finger length and testosterone levels, could help identify people more likely to cheat.

The research used finger measurements from more than 1,300 people, and surveys of almost 600 volunteers in the UK and US.

The survey quizzed people about their sexual habits and the findings backed up the theory with 57 per cent of men admitting there were more inclined to cheat.

Nairobi News: Gospel musician Ambassada was on Wednesday charged with possession of stolen property. The Kenyan-based Ugandan musician of the Watoto Inkane hit song was accused of having an iPad valued at Sh65,000 knowing that it was stolen.

He was jointly charged with another suspect Shadrack Musyoka, who is a member of gospel duo B4C (Born For Christ).

In the case, three other people are charged with violently robbing comedian Fred Omondi Owino of  Hapa Kule News TV program of household goods and personal documents at gunpoint.

Ambassada, whose real name is Wyclef Wamala, allegedly bought the iPad without knowing that it would land him in the dock.

The charge sheet stated that on February 10, 2015 he was found at Nkoroi ni Kajiado County with the stolen gadget, a charge he denied.

In the case, Evans Otieno Okongo and Michael Wandera were charged with violently robbing Mr Fred Omondi and four other residents of phones, cash and ATM cards on February 4.

The court heard that the suspects threatened to shoot Mr. Omondi during the incident. Another complainant, Sudi Mairua Mauti, was robbed of property valued at Sh12,000 at gunpoint, while Linda Mueni Titus was robbed of her Samsung phone valued at Sh5,000.

The court heard that the ipad Ambassada was found with is the property of Douglas Ogega who was robbed at gunpoint on February 4 at Nkoroi, Kajiado. Ambassada was released on a cash bail of Sh40,000, while Okondo was released on Sh750, 000 bond. The case will be heard on May 5.

According to the Intelligent Community Forum, “intelligent communities” are those that have taken “conscious steps” to create an economy that can prosper in the “broadband economy.” The group has recently released its latest rankings, recognizing the achievements of communities that have built inclusive, prosperous economies on a basis of information and communication technologies.

Nairobi was the only African city to appear on their shortlist of 21 hubs throughout the world for 2015.

Intelligent Community Forum co-founder Robert Bell says: “We see a strong foundation being put into place [in Nairobi]: sensible, pro-growth government policy, a more diversified economy, and an innovation ecosystem of startups, international companies and universities.

“Nairobi certainly has the opportunity to build an exciting future for its citizens, businesses and institutions.”

The Kenyan capital, however, didn’t make it to the next round that will see seven communities around the world contesting in June for the 2015 Intelligent Community of the Year award — in alphabetical order, the 2015 Top7 Intelligent Communities were Arlington County (U.S.), Columbus, (U.S.), Ipswich (Australia), Mitchell (U.S.), New Taipei City (Taiwan), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Surrey (Canada).

HESHAN DE SILVA, 26-year-old founder of Vencap Kenya

Heshan De Silva is the founder of DSGVencap, a firm that invests in business ideas across 15 different sectors in East Africa. These range from robotics, agribusiness to startups in the hospitality sector.

Mr. De Silva began his journey eight years ago using Sh10,000 allowance from his parents to start a small insurance company.

He would then go on to make his first million after convincing a leading insurer to allow him to sell cover through travel tickets. By the end of the year, the insurance business earned him Sh90 million.

By end of 2013, his company had invested in thousands of businesses with investments ranging between Sh900,000 and Sh1.8 million.

Although Mr De Silva’s business may be valued at over Sh1 billion, he has been on both sides of the profit and loss coin.

The biggest loss he suffered was Sh10 million, all in one day. Interestingly, each of the three companies he has invested in has crossed Sh900 million valuation mark. Mr. De Silva’s stake in the firms he invests in is usually between 25 to 35 per cent, with a maximum shareholding of 40 per cent.

PAUL KINUTHIA, founder Interconsumer Products

Paul Kinuthia is the brains behind popular consumer products such as Nice & Lovely, All Time Sanitary Pads, Bouncy Baby Diapers, and Golden Shine shoe polish.

Mr Kinuthia started his journey in 1995, making shampoos and conditioners from his makeshift apartment in Nairobi using a startup capital of Sh3,000.

Although local banks initially refused to fund his enterprise, Mr Kinuthia did not give up.

He ploughed back the little profit he made into the business.

Towards the early 2000, demand for his products began to rise, prompting him to move to a bigger room in downtown Nairobi where he grew his product range to include hair gels and pomades.

According to Forbes magazine, Mr Kinuthia’s products were largely shunned by local supermarkets and uptown cosmetics outlets.

Apparently, they were considered too native. However, they were growing in popularity in the streets and the countryside due to their low pricing and effectiveness.

By early 2000s, Mr Kinuthia’s products were flying off the shelves in nearly all wholesale and retail shops in the country, fuelled by their street popularity.

However, it was not until April 2013 when London listed cosmetics giant L’Oreal fully acquired Mr Kinuthia’s Nice & Lovely brand in a multi-billion shilling transaction that his footprints became noticeable.

The deal with L’Oreal, makers of SoftSheen-Carson, Dark and Lovely and Blue Ice Deodorant, was estimated to have been at over Sh1.5 billion.
