Co-Op post

Joseph Ogidi Oyoo, popularly known as Gidi Ogidi, has come a long way from his humble beginnings in the slums of Kenya to becoming a well-known radio host and media personality.

He is best known as one half of the famous duo, Gidi na Ghost, who host the morning show “Patanisho” on Radio Jambo, where they re-connect estranged lovers or friends.

Gidi’s path to success has been marked by his unwavering determination, undeniable talent, and relentless work ethic. In the dynamic world of media, he has garnered a massive following.

Gidi’s passion for music began at a young age, and he worked hard to put himself through school.

He attended Aquinas High School and then proceeded to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Information and Technology (IT).

He furthered his education by obtaining a Master’s in Business Administration from the Strathmore School of Business.

Gidi’s musical career took off when he teamed up with rapper Maji Maji after catching the attention of producer Ted Josiah while performing at a club.

The duo, known as Gidi Gidi Maji Maji, released their debut single “Ting Badi Malo,” which was well-received by Kenyans.

However, it was their hit song “Unbwogable” that brought them widespread attention and success. The song, which means fearless, became a political anthem during the 2002 elections in Kenya and was used by those who were against the ruling party KANU.

The song opened up opportunities for Gidi and Maji Maji, and Gidi had to put a pause on his academics to focus on his music career.

The duo’s success led them to sign a deal with Gallo Record, an international music stable with a branch in South Africa.

However, they had to change their style and rhythm to meet international standards. Despite their success, Gidi and Maji Maji eventually split up in 2005, which was a disappointment to their fans.

Gidi’s career took a new turn in 2006 when he joined the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in the IT department. Two years later, he met Carol Radull, who was the head of news at Kiss FM and a presenter for a football show.

Carol noticed Gidi’s talent for commentary, and he took the chance to transition into radio hosting. He joined Radio Jambo and was assigned to co-host the morning show alongside Ghost Mulee.

The duo’s show, “Patanisho,” became a hit, entertaining listeners and re-uniting estranged loved ones since its launch.

In 2015, Gidi started his own record label called Trendy Media Communication Limited. He aimed to use his experience to support upcoming artists by offering them the opportunity to record their music, shoot videos, and have a marketing team to promote their music before they pay upfront.

He emphasized the importance of easing the financial burden for talented upcoming artists and implementing a revenue sharing mechanism after achieving success.

Gidi is also a family man who is proud to share his family life with his audience. He is currently married to Ziva Elijah, who works in France, and they have a daughter named Marie-Rose Hera Ogidi, who was born in 2016.

Gidi frequently posts photos and videos of his bonding moments with his daughter, showcasing his love for his family.

Gidi, who currently hosts the popular morning show “Patanisho” on Radio Jambo, is rumored to be earning a substantial monthly salary of over Sh. 1 million, according to reports.
