British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) radio and TV presenter Chris Evans earns more money than the best paid CEO in Kenya.
The presenter earns between Sh. 297.7 million and Sh. 305 million (£2,200,000 – £2,249,999) per year, translating to between Sh. 24.8 million and Sh. 25.4 million per month.
In contrast, the highest paid woman was entertainment presenter Claudia Winkleman, who earned less than Sh. 6 million (500,000 pounds) for her work on Strictly Come Dancing and other shows.
Last year, a list compiled by a local daily placed the salary of the best paid Kenyan chief executive James Mworia of Centum at Sh. 16.7 million a month. Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, who runs the most profitable company in Kenya, reportedly takes home about Sh. 10.7 million.
In total, BBC’s wage bill for 96 of its top earners comes to about Sh. 4.06 billion (£30 million), which is more than the profits of Nation Media Group and Standard for 2016 combined. Standard Group made net profit Sh. 198.5 million, while NMG had Sh. 1.98 billion.
BBC, the national broadcaster, on Wednesday named its highest earners for the first time.
