Prince Harris Taga: The Maasai Mara National Hero

In a well-deserved recognition at the Mashujaa Day Celebrations, Harrison Pemba Taga, commonly known as Prince Harris, has been honored with the prestigious National Heroes Award.

As the visionary founder of Mara Napa Camp, a social impact luxury camp, and the dedicated president of both the Mara Napa Foundation and Friends of Maasai Mara, Prince’s tireless efforts go beyond wildlife conservation.

His transformative initiatives encompass sustainability, community empowerment, and holistic support for the entire Maasai Mara region.

Prince’s notable contribution as part of the Global March for Elephants and Rhinos, Kenyan chapter, has been instrumental in the ongoing battle to protect these majestic creatures.

“Guarding the Maasai Mara isn’t just a duty; it’s an expression of our deep affection for this natural haven and the life it sustains,” said Taga.

The Mara Napa Foundation (MNF) was born out of Taga’s passion for wildlife conservation. In 2017, he met a friend, Michelle Nirenstein, with whom they partnered to put up the MNF at the 15-acre Mara Napa Center.

The two wanted to help the local people of the Maasai Mara, their pristine land, and the endangered wildlife that roam there.

Through the MNF projects, Taga has facilitated educational programs, vocational training, and opportunities for Maasai youth and women.

“A great sense of pride and ownership is fostered in everything we do together. It takes a village. Everyone is valuable.”  MNF states.
