Popular radio journalist Eric Latiff has left the Standard Media Group. Latiff, who was a radio journalist at Standard Media’s Spice FM, announced his departure on Monday January 6, 2025.
“On this 6th day of January 2025, my heart is heavy as I bid kwaheri (goodbye) to the brilliant team of colleagues at Spice FM and the Standard Media Group,” said Latiff.
I am grateful for the opportunity to once again be a part of Kenya’s oldest private media house and I am proud of the teams that I leave behind in radio, TV, and print.”
He had gained a huge following through his show at Spice FM dubbed as The Situation Room, which was widely acclaimed for its solid content.
“It has been a great journey building The Situation Room to what it has become and we have very many people to thank, not least the team of producers, marketing, commercial, technical and other colleagues,” said the radio journalist.
How Kenyan billionaire made Sh. 2 billion in Nairobi in 6 months last year
“The Situation Room has become the home of Kenya’s Biggest Conversations and it continues to host many thought leaders, community influencers, different professionals and duty bearers.”
Latiff’s departure from the Standard Media Group comes as the media house continues to grasp on straws, with concerns that it might go under.
In August last year, the media group announced a half year loss increase to Sh. 111.6 million. The loss came as the troubled media house’s revenues dipped by 16.8 per cent to Sh. 1.05 billion from the previous half’s Sh. 1.3 billion.
Total revenue for the Group decreased by 16.8 per cent to close at Sh. 1.049 billion from Sh. 1.260 billion in the previous 6-month period.
This, the media house claimed, was occasioned by reduced advertising spending as businesses cut back on expenditure to weather the current economic conditions
