In a State address on Friday, the president said that the postponement had been necessitated by the ongoing heavy rains and floods.
“The Ministry of Education is directed to postpone the dates of reopening of all schools in the country for the second term until further notice,” President Ruto said.
Earlier on, reports in the media had suggested that the Cabinet had resolved to push ahead with the reopening date of May 6. Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu had stated that parents would be responsible for the safety of their children when the schools reopen.
