Review: Subaru Impreza 2008

The following review was first published on Caza.

The car’s body set and chassis have been entirely redesigned and look different from previous models. The new Impreza’s interior is more spacious and more refined; it comes in sedan and hatchback body styles.

The 2008 Subaru Impreza has a 2.5litre engine and all-wheel-drive system. There are four main trim levels: 2.5i, Outback Sport, WRX and WRX STI.

Interior

Subaru did a great job in improving the interior of this car. The interior materials are high quality and nicely designed, the dashboard layout is simple and stylish.

They have gotten rid of the plastic trims and gaudy colors, and included touch-screen GPS system, a six-disc ten speaker stereo and satellite radio.

Exterior

Compared to the previous model, the new Subaru Impreza has much cleaner lines and a more pleasant look overall. But to Subaru enthusiasts this is not a good thing because the car is losing its identity.
At first glance, the new Impreza could be confused with other car makes and models.

Performance

All the engines of the 4 types send power to all the four wheels. Transmission for all but STI are 4-speed automatic with manual shifting control or 5-speed manual. The STI has a 6-speed manual only.

The fuel economy for 2008 Subaru Impreza is 8.5 kmpl city and 12 kmpl  highway for 2.5i and Outback Sport models, 8.8 kmpl city and 11 Kmpl highway for the WRX and 7 kmpl city/10 Kmpl for the WRX STI.
They all come with a 2.5l engine.

Driving and handling

The previous Impreza was more fun to drive than this one, especially the WRX. The new model feels soft, but you will notice big difference driving especially when cornering, it is less exciting.

The car accelerates quite well but runs out of steam a little early. If you are an enthusiast we suggest you buy the one with manual transmission, the acceleration in the 4-speed automatic is slow.

For enthusiast the WRX STI will give you exactly what you want; a firm, communicative suspension, powerful brakes, quick steering response and fast acceleration whenever the throttle is tickled.

Pros

Standard all-wheel drive, WRX and WRX STI’s punchy turbocharged engines, roomy seating in front and rear.

Cons

Missing some higher-end convenience features, behind-the-times transmissions, below-average fuel economy, sleepy styling except for extroverted STI.
