Riara University set to construct Sh. 20 billion campus in Konza city

Riara University, a private Kenyan higher learning institution, has started construction on a satellite campus at Konza Technopolis.

It is estimated that the campus will cost the university roughly Sh. 20 million, and shall become Riara’s second and main campus.

“The Riara University-Konza Technopolis Campus is poised to accelerate the next phase of our growth and development in line with our motto of nurturing innovators,” said the VC, Prof. Robert Gateru.

Kenya’s Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei was in attendance at the officiating ceremony. He remarked on his pleasure in the private sector spotting opportunities at Konza Technopolis and launching development projects.

He added that the government has completed laying the horizontal infrastructure at Konza. So far, Konza has onboarded more than 140 investors into its various bands.

“We are excited to have Riara University start their construction project, a statement to the fact that we are ready for investors. The campus is an addition to the existing two institutions of higher learning, Kenya Advanced Institute of Technology and Science (Ke-AIST) and the Open University of Kenya (OUK),” said Konza’s CEO, John Paul Okwiri.

Reportedly, the construction of the university shall take place in 3 phases, with phase I expected to be completed by the end of March 2025.

“We are repositioning ourselves to become the innovation and startup university of Africa, offering unique and specialised programs and science technology, innovation and entrepreneurship in line with the model of Stanford University at Silicon Valley in California,” Isacc Awuondo, Chairman of Riara University Council spoke.
