Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga met for breakfast on Friday morning.
Photos of their meeting went viral on Friday mid-morning, a few hours after their meeting.
This was the first meeting since the elections between Gachagua and Raila who were on the opposing sides during the hotly contested August 9 presidential election.
Raila was the Azimio la Umoja coalition candidate. Although details about their meeting were not disclosed, Gachagua acknowledged that he and Mr. Odinga had met.
“We have tremendous respect for our senior citizens,” said Gachagua after the meeting. “I was delighted this morning to have a tete a tete with our senior citizen former prime minister Raila Odinga in Mombasa.”
The meeting came a day after Mr. Odinga castigated the Judiciary for upholding the election of Dr. William Ruto as Kenya’s fifth president.
