On Sunday, detectives involved in the ongoing investigation of the slain JKUAT university student, Rita Waeni Muendo, revealed that they found a head they believe belongs to her.
The police announced that the missing body part was discovered in Kiambaa dam, Kiambu County. Detectives now have a lead on where the perpetrator might have gone after killing Waeni on January 13th in a Roysambu apartment.
According to detectives, Waeni’s murderer placed her body parts in plastic bags and disposed of them in a trash bin within the apartment. Some parts, including the head, were reported as missing.
Now, the head – believed to have been recovered, has been taken for preservation and analysis as the search for her killer continues.
“We have a human head believed to be that of the slain woman but we will say more after the probe,” one officer reported.
Additional items found include the belongings of the deceased woman, such as her mobile phone. The motive behind the killer’s actions is still unknown.

The detectives handling the case suspect that they are dealing with a skilled and professional killer. They are following all available leads to arrest the suspect as soon as possible.
A post-mortem conducted on Waeni’s body revealed that she had missing nails, raising more suspicion. Nails help in gathering DNA details during investigations.
“This person who did all these also tried to clip off the fingernails for reasons which I might not be able to know but for us scientists when we see fingernails clipped off, we think probably the person was trying to hide the evidence so that we are unable to get his DNA from the victim,” said Johansen Oduor, the government’s pathologist who added that he had never seen such a murder.
“I don’t know why but in investigations, such nails help in gathering evidence. People fight when dying and DNA evidence can be hidden there.”
