Robbers posing as staff steal and count Sh. 30.9 million at Equity Bank Othaya

Robbers posing as auditors Friday morning stole Sh30.9 million from Equity Bank’s Othaya Branch in Nyeri County. Following the incident, two staff members of the Equity Bank branch were arrested and are assisting the police with investigations.

The three men had fake Equity Bank staff identification cards.

They are alleged to have entered the bank at around 6am through the rear entrance and told the Equity Bank branch deputy manager that they had been authorised to carry out auditing.

They are said to have walked inside the Equity Bank branch pretending to do inspections.

“They took out the cash and even counted it,” said one source who did not want to be named adding that the amount stolen was Sh30 million.

Nyeri Police Commander Larry Kieng’ said they are investigating how the money was stolen and that no arrest has been made so far.
