28-year-old Robert Walunbengo Mutanyi has been brought before the Makadara Law Courts on allegations that he took part in a robbery.

The violent incident happened near Garden City Mall, Nairobi.

The accused robbery suspect, who worked at a construction, is said to have robbed Sh. 8.7 million from Chinese finance officer, Mr Jinlin. The finance officer had set aside the money to pay casual labourers.

Furthermore, Robert Mutanyi made way with Jinlin’s mobile phone worth Sh. 170,000, eyeglasses costing Sh. 30,000 and a set of headphones.

Allegedly, Mr Jinlin was being driven to an apartment behind Garden City Mall. His driver stopped to do some light shopping at a nearby shop, leaving him alone in the car.

Three violent robbers pounced on the car and ransacked it. Jinlin was hit on the head three times with a beer bottle after detesting orders given to him.

Later, the finance officer proceeded home and informed his neighbours, after which he was rushed to hospital. The matter was reported to Kasarani Stadium Police Station and the case was handed over to the DCI.

The DCI officers proceeded with investigations until they nabbed Robert Mutanyi at Kariobangi North Estate. The man was found with large money proceeds that he could not account for.

He is said to have requested M-Pesa shop attendants if he could deposit Sh. 100,000 stolen cash in his M-Pesa account and more money in different bank accounts.

Attendants informed a Nyumba Kumi official who informed the area chief. The chief reported the matter to police officers.

Mutanyi was presented before Principal Magistrate Eric Mutunga, where he denied all charges levelled against him.

He was released on a bond of Sh. 400,000 with the sane surety amount, without the cash bail option.
