Ruto rewards Kipyegon, Moraa with Sh. 2mn each for winning Gold

President William Ruto has described Faith Kipyegon and Mary Moraa, the gold medalists at the Budapest World Athletics, as great assets for Kenya.

Addressing the awards ceremony at Talanta Hela Plaza in Upperhill, Nairobi, the president extended his congratulations to the duo and the entire Kenyan team that participated in Budapest.

“Let me also congratulate the golden ladies, Mary Moraa and Faith Kipyegon. Our congratulations Mary. Congratulations times two Faith. You ladies are a great asset to our country,” Ruto remarked.

“You are the reason why Kenya is the best in Africa. You are the reason why Kenya is number 5 together with your team and all the others,” Ruto added.

The president assured them that they will have his and the entire nation’s support henceforth as they continue to post brilliant performances for Kenya on the global stage.

Ruto went on to say that Kenya is now recognized as a powerhouse in athletics, and whenever the national anthem was played, he experienced a sense of global leadership.

“Our medallists from Budapest congratulations, good people. You have made us very proud. And you have our goodwill and support. We will stand by you going into the future. Asante sana.”

Additionally, the two athletes were honoured with a reward of Sh. 2 million each for their achievements in securing gold medals in their respective races.

Kipyegon delivered a stellar performance in Budapest, clinching gold in both the 1,500m and 5,000m events, while Mary Moraa triumphed in the 800m race.
