Safaricom has said that its internet-enabled tv decorder sales have started rising. This follows the giant telecommunications firm’s decision to slice its prices for the decorders by half. The decorders are now retailing at Sh. 4,999 from Sh. 10,000 per.
Over the past two months, Safaricom has seen the decorder sales rise to 3,000 from 1,500. During the launching of the decorders, Safaricom had anticipated an huge uptake following the decorders’ ability to provide internet services.
However, the pricing of the decorders has proven to be a hindrance to many consumers, with other TV decorders retailing for much lower.
The decorders dubbed ‘The Big Box’ comes with more than 30 free-to-air channels, TV recording capability, and USB and SD media playback for pictures, music and videos. It also has an in-built Safaricom sim-card which consumers can use to purchase internet bundles.
