Sakaja increases parking fee in Nairobi to between Sh. 300 and Sh. 3,000

Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja has signed into law a county bill that has increased the parking fee in Nairobi to Sh. 300.

The increased fees were contained in the bill dubbed City County Finance Bill 2023 that is seeking to raise revenues of up to Sh. 42.3 billion in the current fiscal year for the county.

In the new fees, vans and pickups parking fee in Nairobi fee has now increased from Sh. 200 to Sh. 500, while the fee for lorries and minibuses weighing up to five tonnes has been increased to Sh. 2000 from Sh. 1000.

Lorries weighing above five tonnes will now pay Sh. 3000 from Sh. 1000.

With the introduction of the new higher parking fees, it now remains to be seen if the new fees will impact vehicle flow into the capital city, especially at a time when motorists are already contending with high fuel prices in the country.
