The State through the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has banned the sale of alcohol in supermarkets.
NACADA has also banned the delivery of alcoholic drinks to people’s homes.
The ban comes as a shocker, given that retail supermarkets have reserved spots where alcoholic drinks are sold.
In addition to this, the State has also banned the sale of alcohol online.
According to the list of places where alcoholic drinks will no longer be sold, the following places are now out of bounds:
Supermarkers, home deliveries and couries, vending machines, hawking, restaurants, online sale of alcohol, residential premises and areas, outlets selling products associated with children such as toy shops, basic education, tertiary, and higher learning institutions.
Also banned are public beaches, public parks, amusement parks, recreational facilities, medical facilities, sports facilities, bus parks, bus stops, petrol stations, railway stations, sale of alcohol along the highways, public transport facilities including trains, the ferry, and piers.
In addition to this, the State has also banned endorsement and advertising of alcoholic beverages by social media personalities and influencers.

Also banned from promoting, endorsing or advertising alcohol are media, sports and entertainment personalities.
Alcohol-related businesses have also been banned from naming and branding sports teams after an alcoholic drink’s product in a move that is likely to impact local sports sponsorships.
In addition to this ban, NACADA has also banned the sale of alcohol to persons aged below 21 years in a move that has raised the bar from the previous cut off of 18 years.
“This policy is a culmination of an extensive, inclusive, amd collaborative effort involving diverse stakeholders across Kenya – from national and county governments to civil society, faith-based groups, the private sector, and the general public,” Interior cabinet secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said.
