Inside strange life of Samuel Mugota, the Mirema man murdered in broad daylight

On Monday May 16, Samuel Mugota had reportedly just dropped a friend at Mirema Drive, when an assailant, who was trailing him in another vehicle, intercepted him and shot him six times at close range. He was on the driver’s seat of his Honda CRV registration number KBY 453R. He died on the spot.

This incident, which was captured on CCTV, has left many in shock, with clues that his murder was a well-planned execution. Since Monday, details on the strange life Mugota live have emerged.

Days before he was killed Mugota had told his elder brother that he might be killed anytime.

According to a report on the murder that appeared in a local daily, Mugota was highly secretive man whose dealings hardly nobody around him knew about. He was so secretive that not even a woman who claimed to have lived with him for 16 years seemed have a clear account of Mugota’s past or what he did for a living, the daily reported.

His wife, Winnie Wambui told detectives that her husband, with who they had three kids, was a former cop who now sold electronics. However, according to detectives, Mugota had never been a police officer. There are no records of him ever being in the police service.

Mugota also had a second wife who was said to be living in Githurai 44. She was identified as Ruth Kamene.

Detectives have theorised that Mugota was a gangster who was murdered by his fellow gangsters after deal gone bad. A laptop, five mobile phones and nine ID cards were found inside the Honda CRV motor vehicle that he was driving.

“Four of the owners of the identity cards found in the car Mugota was driving said they had lost the documents after their drinks were spiked in entertainment joints, after which their bank accounts were emptied,” the daily reported.
