19-year-old Purity Wangechi Kiringa’s lifeless body was discovered on Saturday morning close to Mburiria estate in Kiambu county.
The body had visible stab wounds and strangulation marks. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the body was found dumped by the roadside at around 6am, by a passerby.
Purity had been killed elsewhere and her body dumped at the scene by her killers. Bloodstained bedding, clothes and Purity’s identification documents were among the items recovered.
As investigations into the murder kicked off, detectives quickly found out that Purity who was a student at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) was in a six-month relationship with a Dj known as VDj Flexx.
On the day she was murdered, Purity had just discovered that VDj Flexx was a dangerous criminal who was hid behind music jockeying.
She confronted him on phone about her discovery. The Dj denied being involved in crime and suggested that she visits him for a talk to clear the air. This, though, turned out to be a plan.
“Preliminary investigations by crime scene detectives who immediately kicked off forensic investigations into the murder, established that the deceased left college yesterday, to visit her boyfriend who lives in Kirigiti, Kiambu county,” the DCI reported.
“According to her friends who were interviewed by the sleuths at the college, Purity and the boyfriend recently had a misunderstanding, after she discovered that he was a thug and confronted him with the facts.”
Purity visited Flexx to confront him with her discoveries. After knowing that she had busted him, and there was a possibility of her reporting him, the Dj and his two other friends laid a plan that ended up with the murder of Purity.
“Wangechi had fallen in love with the killer and they had been in a relationship for sometime before she discovered that he was a thug. She confronted him about it leading to a misunderstanding between the two,” the DCI said.
“She however didn’t know that her lover was determined to cover his tracks by eliminating her. On Friday, Wangeci left the country’s premier media institution to meet him in Kirigiti, to try and rekindle the dying embers of their once blossoming love. She did not know that she was walking into a death trap.”

On Sunday morning when VDj Flexx and his two other accomplices were arrested, detectives also recovered a vegetable knife that was carefully concealed in his waistband and which was used in stabbing the innocent teenage student, whose only mistake was falling in love with a thug.
“The detectives also discovered the scene of the murder that was preserved for forensic examination by Crime scene personnel based at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory,” the DCI said.
