More SGR trains arrive in Kenya

Additional Standard Gauge Railway engines and wagons have docked at the port of Mombasa.

The additional SGR wagons and engines were received by Kenya Railways at the port yesterday.

18 freight locomotives and 60 wagons designed for double-stacking of containers were offloaded at the Port of Mombasa yesterday.

“We have a team working round the clock to ensure all aspects of freight operations are in place. The inland container depot at Embakasi, which is a key installation for Kenya’s railway operations, is on course for completion by September of this year,” said Kenya Railways managing director AK Maina.

The SGR line between Mombasa and Nairobi has been use for slightly over a month. The next phase that will see the SGR extended from Nairobi to Naivasha is set to kick off.
