Siza Mzimela: The first black woman who dared to own an airline

South African businesswoman Siza Mzimela has just made history becoming the first black woman to own her own airline!

Siza Mzimela is the new founder and CEO of Fly Blue Crane, which took its first flight in Johannesburg from OR Tambo International Airport on September 1st of this year. To add to the achievement, Mzimela has also become the first woman appointed tot he International Air Transport Association’s Board of Directors.

Mzimela is also the founder and Executive Chairperson of Blue Crane Aviation, an aviation services company that provides airlines and related businesses with things such as consulting, legal services with aviation, aircraft management services and much more.

According to Fly Blue Crane’s media release, during its launch phase, the airline will operate a 50-seater Embraer Regional Jet 145 (‪#‎ERJ‬) in a single class configuration, allowing for quick aircraft turnaround times and maximum crew synergies.

According to LinkedIn profile of Siza Mzimela, Fly Blue Crane promised to offer customers a “much needed alternative air travel option to various business and leisure destinations within the Southern African region. ”
