State House Nairobi “renovations” to cost a whopping Sh. 795 million

The State House in Nairobi is being renovated. It has now emerged that the cost of renovation will be Sh. 795 million. This is an increase of Sh. 600 million from the initial Sh. 195.4 million.

Apparently, Sh. 620 million will be used for construction while Sh. 149.02 million will be used to refurbish parts of the current building.

An additional Sh. 26.4 million will be used for the purchase of specialized plant, equipment and machinery.

These figures from the National Treasury indicate that now the refurbishment of State lodges, State House Mombasa and State House Nairobi will now cost a whopping Sh. 1.3 billion from the initial estimates of Sh. 900 million.

State House Mombasa will be refurbished at a cost of Sh. 302 million while State House Nakuru will be refurbished at a cost of Sh. 125 million.

At the same time, refurbishment of Sagana State Lodge will cost Sh. 27 million while refurbishment of Kisumu and Kakamega lodges will cost Sh. 10 million.

The Kisii State Lodge will cost Sh. 9 million while State Lodge Eldoret will cost Sh. 30 million.

“The approved estimates have been revised under the 2023/24 supplementary estimates No.1, reflecting an increase on account of additional funding to cater for personal emolument, enhanced operations and maintenance expenses, refurbishment of buildings and other civil works,” the National Treasury states in the 2023/24 first supplementary budget books.
