Keroche Industries chief executive officer Tabitha Karanja has joined the dirty world of politics. Ms. Karanja says that she will be seeking to occupy the position of Senator for Nakuru County during the 2022 General Elections.
“It is time to introduce business policies to the Senate as we operate in an environment where politics is the order of the day,” said Ms. Karanja.
It was however not immediately clear the party Ms. Karanja would use to vie for the position. Over the years, she has enjoyed a close working relationship with former prime minister Raila Odinga. “It is still early to state which party I would use to contest the seat. I am still consulting advisers, voters and family,” she said.
She will battle for the position against former Nakuru senator James Mungai, Mike Weche, Andrew Yatich, former Nakuru Level 5 Hospital medical superintendent Dr Joseph Mburu and Daniel Kimani who have announced their intention for the seat.
“For years, I have shied off from politics to concentrate on business but time is ripe for me to introduce policies that will cushion and support fellow investors,” she said. “I think I have new business ideas which can spur this country ahead economically and when the time is right I will name my political vehicle.”

Ms. Karanja said that she first wants to understand what the electorate want and their expectations, before coming out with a manifesto for her campaign. She said that it is her plan to use her senatorial position to influence business policy in the event her campaign is successful. “The journey in the industry has been tough, but it made me tougher. I want to help others,” she said. “These are some of the things that I’ll push for, if Nakuru voters accord me a chance to represent them at the Senate. I don’t belong to any political party, but I’m weighing my options. Time is still on my side.”
