Why T-Kash could be the best mobile money app in Kenya today

Modern technology has changed the way Kenyans interact and handle their money. These days, for instance, you don’t have to make trips to your bank branch or ATM to access financial services, thanks to the amazing connectivity made possible by modern technology.

For example, the 2021 FinAccess Household Survey report shows that the overall use of traditional bank accounts has reduced from 29.6 per cent in 2019 as mobile banking rose to 34.4 per cent from 25.3 per cent, with more people shifting to technology for transactions

Simply, mobile technology has matured, enabling Kenyans to access all kinds of financial services remotely. However, access to the best services is largely dependent on the efficiency and reliability of the technology and platform a consumer uses. A survey by Bizna Kenya on the reliability of the available mobile money platforms revealed that hardly any could meet all the needs of the consumer at a go. This state may now change following the introduction of the T-Kash App.

A look into this app shows that it is an easy-to-use application that will enable its customers to access a wider service offering on its digital financial services platform.

The T-Kash App, which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store, the Huawei App Store as well as the Apple Store, is a strategic addition through which Telkom customers will access T-kash. Customers currently access T-kash via USSD code *160#.

The T-kash App will enable the customer to send money to a mobile wallet within the Telkom network, to an MPESA wallet and soon to an Airtel Money wallet, or to a bank account, to buy airtime and data bundles for their own Telkom line or for another Telkom customer, pay bills, as well as make withdrawals and deposits at a T-kash agent.

In 2021, T-kash was integrated into the government digital services platform, eCitizen, enabling T-kash customers to pay for National and County Government Services that are to be found on the Portal.

T-kash customers are now able to make digital payments for services offered by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA); Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Business Registration Service and Immigration Services. The list also includes bundled services under the Civil Registration Department, Office of the Attorney General, Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), National Construction Authority, Kenya Film Commission, National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) and the Ministries of Land and Mining.

Through T-kash, entrepreneurs in Mombasa, Nyeri and Kisumu Counties can also pay for their single business permits, trade licenses and e-construction permits – a boon to Kenya’s Ease of Doing Business Program that seeks to, among other actions, further automate service delivery.

“The T-kash App is the culmination of extensive research on evolving customer trends, anchored on the need for simplicity, security, availability and a diversified service offering,” Telkom’s Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer, Julius Cheptiony told Bizna Kenya.

You can register for T-kash at any Telkom shop or at the nearest agent. You can also dial *234# using your Telkom line to locate the agent nearest to them.
