How the formation of Telkom subsidiaries has enhanced service delivery

Telkom Madaraka Life: Telkom Kenya has launched a new data and voice plan that will see Kenyans get 1GB plus 100 minutes for life at only Sh. 100. For a one-time payment of Sh. 100, new Telkom customers will get life-time value of free 1GB mobile internet data and 100 minutes of talk-time to make Telkom-to-Telkom calls every month. The new plan dubbed Madaraka Life makes Telkom the first telecommunications firm in Kenya to develop and offer this service locally. “We are the first network in Kenya to introduce such an offering, making mobile internet data and talk time even more accessible to Kenyans,” Telkom chief executive officer Mugo Kibati said. Mr. Kibati said that the new plan is in line with the spirit of Madaraka, in valuing Kenyan freedom and giving all Kenyans an opportunity to pursue their goals and live their dreams. Telkom users are getting more value for Less with Omoka Vinoma This offer is however not only restricted to new customers alone. “Upon loading a minimum of Sh. 100 airtime, our existing customers can also opt in and enjoy this life-time value of free 1GB mobile internet data and 100 minutes of talk time every month. Existing customers will also receive an instant cashback of Sh. 50 to their T-Kash wallet,” Mr. Kibati said on the new Telkom Madaraka Life bundle.

In August last year, Telkom re-organised its structure to strategically address the digital transformation being witnessed, as well as lay the groundwork towards our long-term goal to become the technology partner of choice.

We committed to:

  • better positioning our infrastructure asset base and services to drive digital transformation within the Consumer, SME, Corporate and Public Sectors;
  • creating a smart landing hub for submarine cables that would act as the gateway to the East African region and beyond;
  • bridging the consumer digital divide through the expansion of our 4G/LTE network;
  • up-skilling our employees to be future-fit, to be able to serve the evolving needs of our customers.

To support the execution of these focus areas, Telkom re-organised its structure into Telkom Consumer and Telkom Digital, with the end game being to further simplify the customer journey and create more value, thereby realising better customer experience.

Telkom now moves into its next phase of transformation, in line with its focus areas, that will see it better cater to the evolving trends in the telco industry, and in particular, a heightened demand for infrastructure and data services.

At this point and to enhance service delivery, Telkom is creating two 100% wholly-owned subsidiaries to house its Digital and Financial Services businesses. The Consumer Service Delivery Unit will remain within Telkom.

It is also important to highlight that there will be no loss of jobs as a result of this exercise which is geared towards furthering our objective of making Telkom the technology partner of choice.
