Thief steals man’s laptop, sends him apology, meets him and beats him up

Folks on Twitter have called a thief ‘considerate’ after he stole a man’s laptop and sent the man he nicked a laptop an apology email.

The victim, a young man identified as Zweli Thixo, took to Twitter to share the message that he had received from the thief who made away with his laptop that contained research work.

“They stole my laptop last night and they sent me an email using my email, I have mixed emotions now.” he tweeted.

In the email, the thief apologized for his crime and said he needed money after struggling to make ends meet.

But having realized that his victim was busy with some research work, he attached the relevant research files along with the apology email.

Furthermore, the thief gave the victim a time deadline to respond to the email in case there were other important files in the laptop that he needed for his research work, alerting him by 12 noon Monday 31st October.

The thief’s email which has more than 340,000 likes on Twitter reads;

“Bro Howzit? I know I stole your laptop yesterday. I needed the money as I have been struggling to make ends meet. I see that you were busy with a research proposal. I have attached it and if there are other files you need, please alert me before Monday 12:00 since I have found a customer.”

In a follow-up tweet, the victim tried to buy back his laptop for Sh. 27,000 (R4000) after following advice from Twitter Users on the internet. The thief was at first wary and unconvinced but he agreed to meet up so long as he improved his offer to Sh. 33,500 (R5000)

“Are you trying to get me arrested? You think I would fall for that? The only time I would agree to this is if you made it Sh. 33,500 (R5000) and we going to meet on the location of my choice. No police and if I see anyone else on the spot it will be the last time you hear from me.” Wrote the thief.

The victim met the thief yesterday on Monday and unfortunately, it was a setup, and he received a thorough beating from a group of them. Furthermore, they took away the Sh. 33,500 (R5000) he had offered and also stole his phone.

Here is the victim’s message after the rough meet-up with the thieves;

“Back and safe but not okay. It was a trap. They gave me a beating and took the R5k and my phone.” He tweeted.

“If it wasn’t for the taxi driver that decided to stop when he saw the situation it would have been worse than this. Never take advice on the internet.” He added.
