Former TV presenter opens up on how extravagant living left him broke with Sh3 million debt

Former KTN presenter Tim Njiru has opened up about his financial struggles that drove him to Sh3 million debt.

In an interview with a local radio station, Njiru, who is now a pilot, attributed his financial struggles to extravagant living.

He further explained some of the reasons why people fall into debt, which include living beyond their means and a high cost of living.

“Famous people are under pressure to live lavishly, but you should cut your coat according to your cloth.” He said.

Njiru revealed he acquired two vehicles through bank financing, and the debt forced him to make some changes to repay it. He started decluttering his house and looked for other sources of income to raise the money, as well as his pilot school fees.

“I started seeing what I did not need, I had a huge TV, and I sold it and started reading books. I also sold the more expensive vehicle and moved to a smaller house.’’ He added.

After his financial situation improved, he took a different financial path, living within his capabilities, undeterred by people’s opinions.

“We don’t eat or bathe with them,” he said.

According to him, his childhood dream was to become a pilot, but his performance in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education denied him the opportunity to join aviation.

He decided to take advantage of his voice and joined the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) for a journalism course.

He joined the Standard Media Group, where he worked as a researcher before climbing the ladder to a TV presenter and show host.

It was through media that he met contacts in the airline industry, prompting him to quit to actualize his childhood dream.

He quit the media industry in 2017 and joined the Flight Training Center to study aviation, and in 2019 his dream of flying solo became a reality.
