Titus Muya is a Kenyan entrepreneur and former civil servant who is best known for founding Family Finance Building Society.
Despite having no prior banking experience or capital, Titus was determined to turn his vision into a reality and began his journey in 1984 with a single outlet in Nairobi.
He secured a loan of Sh. 500,000 and focused on serving the unbanked population, opening additional branches in Gatundu and Githunguri areas.
Titus saw the opportunity to serve a need in the market and took advantage of it by offering loans to the local population to pay school fees.
This move was a turning point for the business as clients increased and so did the revenue. Titus learned the importance of patience as he did not take any income for himself for 20 years, choosing to reinvest the profits back into the business.
He served as the chairman and CEO of the building society for 23 years before paving the way for growth by selling his stake and eventually resigning as CEO.
In 2007, the building society became a commercial bank after being issued a license by the Central Bank of Kenya, further solidifying Titus’s legacy in the banking sector.
Apart from banking, Titus has also made a significant impact in the real estate sector with Daykio Plantations Limited, a company he founded in 1984.
