Tony Elumelu Foundation expresses a Massive Conviction in Young African Entrepreneurs

Tony Elumelu, through his foundation; The Tony Elumelu Foundation has shown great interest in Young African Entrepreneurs.

He showed this conviction at the launch of the Tony Elumelu Storytellers Fund in Lagos, Nigeria. Mr. Elumelu asserted that Young African Entrepreneurs are capable of transforming Africa economically.

“Young Entrepreneurs and those they inspire are the lifeblood of Africa’s rise.”

He said.

The fund was launched by Africa No Filter. It is sponsored by Heirs Insurance and Heirs Life Insurance for young journalists and young artists.

“This initiative aligns with our beliefs and extends the work that we do at the Tony Elumelu Foundation.”

He added.

“Empowering young creative African Entrepreneurs and the creative sector provides a channel for us to project Africa’s positives globally.”

“We need their voices to tell our often less told stories of triumph, resilience, hard work and innovation.”

Said Tony Elumelu.

The purpose of the Tony Elumelu Storytellers Fund is to celebrate and share various forms of stories by Young Entrepreneurs. The fund calls for applications from young African Entrepreneurs, both in Africa and Diaspora. The application should come from Bloggers, Vloggers, Emerging Artists, Journalists, Content Creators and Podcasters.

Applications opened on June 30th, 2022 and will be closing on 29th July 2022 at 9 pm EAT. The shortlisted candidates will be contacted on 31st August 2022. Successful Applicant Announcement will be revealed on 23rd September 2022.

The Tony Elumelu Storytellers fund allows for lots of creativity and innovation – think about what you want your reader or viewer to take away from this work and the type of impact you want to create, locally and globally.

  1. What kind of Projects are you looking for?

This fund is awarded to content creators in two categories; Media and Arts.

Media includes Bloggers, Vloggers and Journalists. Examples of projects include:

  • A series of published articles identifying innovative tech entrepreneurs
  • A vlog that showcases entrepreneurs in underrepresented areas
  • A blog that shines the light on new African innovation

Art grants will be made to photographers, filmmakers, sketch artists and digital artists. Examples of projects include:

  • A lighthearted, comedic short film telling the story of an 11-year-old budding entrepreneur
  • A photography series of Africa’s top entrepreneurs.

 

  1. Will Mr. Tony Elumelu see my work?

Yes, Mr. Elumelu will see your work. All recipients of this fund will have their work presented to Mr. Elumelu and the Heirs Insurance and Heirs Life team. They will also be involved in the selection process.

  1. How much time do I have to create my content?

All recipients of the Tony Elumelu Fund must complete their projects by October 2022.

  1. I don’t have a lot of experience creating content, but I would to apply for this opportunity. Will I be selected?

The Storytellers Fund is designed to support emerging storytellers who may not have a long track record or an extensive portfolio.

However, our panelist will need some evidence to produce the proposed project in your application.

For example, if you are a photographer, you should have some samples of your photography work – this should not be your first-time taking photos.

  1. Do I have to live in Africa to apply for this opportunity?

The opportunity is open to Africans in the continent and those living in Diaspora.

  1. I would like to work with a team to complete this project. Do we all have to apply?

No, you do not need to apply all of you. The applicant is responsible for the success and the completion of the work.

  1. Can I apply more than once?

We ask that all candidates apply more than once, using their best idea to apply.

  1. When will I know the status of my application?

Applicants will know the status of their applications by 31st August 2022.

  1. My project budget is more than $ 2000. Can I apply for more?

The maximum amount for the Storytellers Fund is $2,000.
