The fight for customers in the high-end whisky market in Kenya has intensified with the entry of The Macallan Rare Cask.
Eyeing growth in the fast growing wealthy market segment, WOW Beverages looks set to cement its grip in the industry with the launch of the Single Malt Scotch whisky.
At the launch held at Capital Club Nairobi on September 5th 2016, the Macallan Brand Ambassador Peter Allison said The Macallan Rare Cask has been exquisitely crafted from Spanish and American seasoned sherry oak casks.
“The unsurpassed quality of our exceptional oak casks is the single greatest contributor to the outstanding quality, natural colors and distinctive aromas and flavors of The Macallan,” said Mr Allison.
And through the expertise of The Macallan’s master Distiller Bob Dalgarno, the Rare Cask has raised the bar of the sense of exclusivity since he selectively hand-picks the first-fill sherry casks currently aging in the distillery to make the single malt, Mr Allison added. “Only one per cent of the casks maturing are selected for Rare Cask.”
The Macallan is the most precious whisky in the world. In 2010, The Macallan Cire Perdue 64 Years Old (1.5 Litres) sold at auction for Ksh. 46.4 million ($460,000), attaining the Guinness World Record for the most expensive whisky sold at auction.
The record, however, was broken in 2014 when The Macallan M Constantine Decanter (6 Litres) sold under the hammer for a whopping Ksh. 63.4 million ($628,000) further affirming The Macallan’s reputation as a peerless spirits.
