TSC advertises CEO position as Nancy Macharia retires

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has formally advertised the position of Chief Executive Officer. This comes as Dr. Nancy Macharia who has been serving in this position prepares to retire from the commission. The advertisement by the TSC is contained in the government paper, MyGov.

Dr. Macharia’s term shall officially come to an end on June 30, 2025. She is retiring as from the CEO position after leasing the organization for a period of ten years. She started serving as TSC CEO in June 2015. In 2020, her contract was extended at the TSC.

Reports say that Dr. Macharia had advised the commission to commence the process of recruiting her successor in January 2025. According to the reports, Dr. Macharia had stated that this would allow her successor to be properly onboarded into the commission. However, her suggestion was never implemented.

To qualify for the advertised position, the TSC is requiring that interested applicants be Kenyan citizens holding at least a degree in education from a recognized university. The applicants should also have at least 10 years of experience working in education, administration, management, public administration, human resource or financial management.

The successful applicant shall serve as head of the TSC Secretariat, act as the Accounting Officer of the Commission, and be the custodian of all Commission records.

“Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., through the TSC online portal https://www.recruitment.tsc.go.ke, via email to [email protected], or hand-delivered to the Commission’s offices in Upper Hill, Nairobi,” the TSC states in the advert. “The names of all applicants and the interview schedule of those shortlisted shall be published in the print media and the Commission’s website.”

Dr. Macharia took over from Gabriel Lengoiboni who retired on June 30th, 2015. Her appointment followed the conclusion of a competitive recruitment process that started on May 1st, 2015 when the position was advertised.

The advertisement for the post of CEO attracted 69 candidates. Four were shortlisted. After two days of interviews, Ms. Macharia was selected to be the ninth, and first female, chief executive to head TSC since the first appointment in 1967.
