3,800 diploma secondary teachers to fight for promotion next week

TSC Diploma Teachers Promotion: Over 3,800 diploma secondary school teachers are set to get a stab at promotion. This follows an announcement by the Teachers Service Commission on over 1,000 open promotions for this category of teachers.

In a circular that was sent to regional heads by the TSC, the commission said that interviews for the promotions will be conducted from may 24 to May 28 this year.

The TSC had advertised for these positions  in January 2021. According to this advertisement, the TSC had vacancies for secondary teacher teacher 1, senior masterIV, deputy principal III, senior principal, deputy principal II and senior lecturer IV.

The senior teach 1 under TSC scale 8 had 492 posts, senior master IV under TSC scale 9 had 363 posts, deputy principal III under TSC scale 11 had 72 posts, senior principal under TSC scale 14 had 15 posts, deputy principal II under TSC scale 12 had 30 posts, senior lecturer IV under TSC scale 9 had 28 posts.

These posts will be filled in line with career progression guidelines for teachers, which means that teachers under the Kenya National Union of Teachers might be disadvantaged given that the union does not adhere to these guidelines.

Currently, diploma teachers have been entering the service under job group C1 (T-scale 6) which was previously known as Job Group J. Degree teachers on the other hand enter service under job group C2 (T-scale 7) which was previously known as Job Group K.
